چکیده
This study was created to investigate the effects of CO2 insufflationinduced pneumoperitoneum on indices of acidbase status and blood picture in dogs. Twelve adult male dogs were subjected to pneumoperitoneum after general anesthesia, pneumoperitoneum was induced throughout the 60 minutes and blood samples were collected at intervals, 0, 5, 15, 30 and 60 minutes. Results of statistical analysis revealed that pneumoperitoneum disturb the acidbase homeostasis by increasing (p≤0. 05) both pCO2, tCO2 and HCO3 whereas pO2 was reduced with no significance on blood pH. Electrolytes including k + and Ca 2+ were significantly increased as a result of pneumoperitoneum yet Na + was relatively stable. Total WBC count, granulocytes and platelets were reduced (p≤0.05) whereas no significance observed related to RBCs, Hb, MCV, MCHC, MCH and Hct. In conclusion, CO2mediated pneumoperitoneum alters acidbase status predisposing to respiratory and metabolic acidosis as well as disturbing immune response.

Clinical and paraclinical evaluation of partial nephrectomy using laparoscopy and open surgery in dogs: new suturing technique
Partial nephrectomy, using open surgery or laparoscopy, is a standard surgical approach to treat renal disorders. The objective of this study was to compare and evaluate the feasibility and safety of laparoscopic partial nephrectomy using figure eight ligation technique. Mixed-breed dogs were randomly dedicated for partial nephrectomy using laparoscopy (n=6) and open surgery (n=6). During 30 da...
متن کاملThe effect of heating insufflation gas on acid-base alterations and core temperature during laparoscopic major abdominal surgery
BACKGROUND Carbon dioxide (CO(2)) has different biophysical properties under different thermal conditions, which may affect its rate of absorption in the blood and the related adverse events. The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of heating of CO(2) on acid-base balance using Stewart's physiochemical approach, and body temperature during laparoscopy. METHODS Thirty adult pati...

BACKGROUND: Clinical prostatic diseases occur in 80% of dogs over 5 and 95% over 9 years of age. . It seems that benign prostatic hyperplasia) BPH) affect Scottish terriers more severely than the other breeds. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the changes of biochemical and hematological parameters in BPH dogs. METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 10 male dogs older than five year...
متن کاملMetabolic effects of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) insufflation during laparoscopic surgery: changes in pH, arterial partial Pressure of Carbon Dioxide (PaCo2) and End Tidal Carbon Dioxide (EtCO2).
Background Acid base alterations occur during laparoscopy with carbon dioxide insufflation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of low tidal volume ventilation on acid base status during pneumoperitonium. Materials and Methods 30 patients undergoing laparoscopic surgery under General Anaesthesia were ventilated with tidal volume of 6 ml/kg and respiratory rate of 12 breat...
متن کاملVideoendoscopic endotracheal intubation in the rat: a comprehensive rodent model of laparoscopic surgery.
BACKGROUND Peritoneal absorption of CO(2) during abdominal insufflation in laparoscopy may disrupt the acid-base equilibrium and alter the physiological response to stress. Current nonventilated rodent models of laparoscopy do not manage the CO(2) load of pneumoperitoneum, but ventilated surgical rodent models are invasive (tracheotomy) and may independently induce the inflammatory response. ...
